Maundy Thursday

Passage: John 13:1-14, John 13: 34, Matthew 26:20-75, Matthew 27:1- 50
Service Type:

Our Maundy Thursday service is an in-person service at 5:30 pm in the sanctuary.  We are not Livestreaming due to the darkness.

We invite those who are at a distance to reflect on the themes of the evening while experiencing the original visual artwork and musical composition by William Zeitler, "This Too Shall Pass".  (See more of William’s Musical and Metaphysical Musings at GrailHeart.com.)

In our scriptures we will accompany Jesus as he eats with his disciples, washes the feet of his disciples, and then is betrayed and crucified.

As you can see in our Order of Service, we will reflect on the scriptures as a series of shadows:
The Shadow of Betrayal
Matthew 26:20
When it was evening, he took his place with the twelve; and while
they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”

The Shadow of the Agony of Spirit
Matthew 26:36
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

The Shadow of Denial
Matthew 26:69-70
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant-girl came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” But he denied it before all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.”

The Shadow of Accusation
Matthew 27:11
Now Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him,
“Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You say so.”

The Shadow of Crucifixion
Matthew 27:31
After mocking him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

The Shadow of Death
Matthew 27:50
Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last.

Please join us on Sunday, March 31 for our Easter Service, in person and Livestreamed.
