As Presbyterian Women, we are forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
- to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
- to support the mission of the Church worldwide,
- to work for justice and peace,
- and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promises of God’s kingdom.
Presbyterian Women is composed of four active “circles” which meet monthly for Bible study, fellowship, mission work, and fun. Several times a year, Presbyterian Women hosts a “gathering,” which may feature a speaker or other special program, and dinner or brunch. We also sponsor bake sales and other fundraising events such as Alternative Christmas, which enable us to contribute to local, Presbytery, churchwide, and worldwide missions.
Our Circles:
We have 4 Circles that meet monthly from September – June. Check the calendar for scheduled times and locations. Some are at the church and others in member homes.
Contact the church office you would like more information about who to contact to join one of these circles or to begin a new circle.
Presbyterian Women Giving: While under no obligation, each woman has the opportunity to give to the following through a variety of offerings:
Mission Pledge: First Presbyterian pledges a total amount based on the membership in PW circles and those dollars are used to support a wide variety of PC(USA) efforts. Bake sales and fashion shows supplement circle offerings to meet this pledge.
Thank Offering: Collected in the fall for projects that support basic human needs.
Birthday Offering: The unique criteria for the projects funded by this offering is that they improve the lives of women, children, youth, racial-ethnic communities, or persons with disabilities.
Least Coin Offering: As part of a global ecumenical women’s prayer movement, each time a woman prays, she sets aside the least coin of her local currency as a symbol of the prayer. We collect our coins at circle meetings, joining each other and women around the world in the common quest for peace, justice, and reconciliation. Our congregation sends this offering to PC(USA). Along with other women’s national groups, PC(USA) forwards this allocation to the central FLC Fund c/o World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland. The prayers offered and the least coins collected support projects or women and children around the world.
