Many of our local students will be new voices in fields where their gender, race and/or ethnicity has been underrepresented, or they may be the first in their family to attend college. We encourage all students to pursue educational opportunities, including programs specifically intended to give high school students the skills and encouragement to succeed in a college path fitting their goals and gifts.
Since summer intensive and mentoring programs are widely available, if you have already identified a college or university of interest, check with them. Online search terms seem to include the name of the university and “bridge”, or “high school”, or “student success”. Ask questions until you fully understand all costs and benefits of attendance.
